Unlocking the Pathophysiology of IBS

چکیده

Over the past decade, one of the major efforts in GI motility research at Cedars-Sinai has focused on identifying the pathophysiology of irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), as well as improving diagnostic tools available to clinicians. This work has been inspired by the diffi culties inherent in the diagnosis and treatment of a vaguely defi ned syndrome. Typically, IBS is diagnosed when other diseases have been eliminated from consideration, and even the Rome Criteria for IBS assume that there are no other identifi able disease states present.
